Pyromancy is the manipulation of fire through the Ley. It is strongly associated with Drakeri bloodlines, though individual affinity varies.
Fire Summoning
A trained Pyromancer can summon a small flame without an existing fire source. Ordinary fire summoned in this way is roughly torch-scale. It may be thrown or exhaled, but its force and range remain limited.
Controlling Fire
Manipulating existing fire is easier than creating it. A Pyromancer may encourage a flame to grow, spread, bend around an area, or diminish, but the fire remains subject to the nature of fire. Control requires line of sight or, for a blind Pyromancer, a natural ability to sense heat.
Coldfire
Coldfire is a controlled magical light associated with Drakeri fire traditions. It is not simply a miniature fireball and is normally used for illumination.
Soulfire
Soulfire is exceptionally rare and appears to be associated with identical or fraternal twins carrying Drakeri bloodlines. Once in a twenty-four-hour period, a practitioner may intensify or diminish an emotion already present in another person. Soulfire cannot create an emotion from nothing. The effect lasts about an hour.
Dragonfire and Dragonmancy
Dragonmancy is another exceptionally rare twin Gift associated with Drakeri blood. Once per day, with player agreement, the twins may suppress the fire of a fire-breathing creature such as a Ddraig. Once the Gift has been used, the twins are no more resistant to the Ddraig's fire than anyone else and remain vulnerable to its teeth, claws, and rider.
Other Characteristics
- Normal fire does not burn a Pyromancer, their immediate clothing, or immediate effects unless permitted.
- Pyromancers tolerate heat better than most people but still require water and rest.
- They may increase their internal warmth temporarily to withstand cold.
- They tend to feel warm to the touch.
- Their resistance to infection may be aided by controlled heat, but this does not replace medical treatment.
- Pyromancers can assist physicians and Airemidd by providing controlled heat, cauterization, and warmth.
