The Conquest and the Reckoning of Years
Twelve and a half centuries ago, High Lord Maedar Jordayne of Great House Carthmoor began the campaign that would change the political history of Brydd.
Backed by the Houses of Kheldish Riding, mercenaries from Falcor, and the Knights of the Temple of Ceros, Maedar conquered the Five Marches and united them beneath his crown. His attempts to extend that conquest farther did not bring all Brydd beneath his rule, but the kingdom he created endured.
The Kingdom of Carthmoor was born.
In return for the Church's support, D'Hassa received formal recognition as an autonomous city-state, and the Faith of Ceros became Carthmoor's official religion. Heresy laws followed. Many were softened or repealed by later rulers, though their legacy remains. The Church itself does not recognize the repeal of the Heresy Laws, and they remain in its books.
After Conquest
Maedar's victory also established a new reckoning of years. The year of the Conquest became 0 AC - After Conquest - and the calendar gradually spread through Carthmoor's trading partners.
The present year is 1250 AC.
