Character Rules

292 words · 2 min read

Aereth is a Limited Consent (Permission-Based) RPG. Players control their own characters, but character actions still have reasonable in-game consequences.

Consent and Consequences

  1. You may not kill, seriously injure, permanently alter, or take control of another player's character without their permission.
  2. Likewise, you may write what your character attempts to do, but you may not dictate another character's reaction or the outcome without prior agreement.
  3. Permission-based play does not mean characters are immune to consequences. If your character takes an action, other characters and the game world may reasonably respond to it. A character seriously wounded on Tuesday will not be charging into battle on Wednesday as though nothing happened.
  4. For major planned conflicts between characters, we strongly recommend discussing the situation OOC beforehand. This helps everyone distinguish intentional in-character contention from problems between players. Never use IC conflict to settle an OOC disagreement.
  5. If a player disappears without notice, the Game Manager may move or sideline their character as described under GM Godmodding.

Activity

Aereth does not conduct mandatory activity checks.

If you're involved in an active plot and need to step away, let your writing partners or GMs know.

Character Limits

Aereth has no character limit. Create as many characters as you can reasonably manage.

We recommend getting your first character approved and into play before creating additional characters.

Magic

Aereth is a magical world, but magic does not make a character invincible.

All magical abilities must comply with the Magic Rules and be documented in the character's approved bio. Abilities cannot be invented during play simply because a character needs them.

Magic is also subject to Aereth's normal consent and godmodding rules.

For permitted abilities, limitations, prohibited magic, and how magic works on Aereth, see the Magic and Aereth.
