Overview

The Sisters of Silence are a healing and charitable order associated with the Church of Ceros. Their work follows the whole course of suffering: they tend illness and injury, nurse the recovering, comfort the dying, care for the dead, and remain with the bereaved afterward.

Although the Church publicly embraces the Sisters as an expression of Cerosian mercy, the Order possesses old traditions, independent resources, and a strong identity of its own. The Sisters are widely loved because their first concern is simple: relieve suffering where they find it.

Most Sisters are skilled practitioners of ordinary healcraft rather than supernatural healers. They learn medicine, nursing, herbs, wound care, bone-setting, and the treatment of common illnesses. Their hospitals and hospices make practical care available even to people who may never see a Magister physician or Sídhe healer.

Playing a Sister

A Sister may be devoutly Cerosian, quietly questioning, practical, scholarly, warm, stern, humorous, or reserved. She may marry, remain single, have children, or build a family in whatever manner is acceptable to her culture and circumstances. Sister is a vocation and office, not a vow of celibacy or withdrawal from ordinary life.

What unites the Order is service: care for the sick and injured, dignity for the dying and dead, and compassion for those left behind. The Sisters are not inquisitors, judges of doctrine, or agents of punishment.
