Formation of a Guardian
Candidates enter a long period of formation combining martial instruction, spiritual discipline, physical conditioning, practical service, and education in the responsibilities of the Order. Called and un-Called candidates train together and are held to the same standards.
Training is intended to produce disciplined protectors rather than unquestioning weapons. Candidates are taught to obey legitimate authority, but also to recognize that duty to the Faith and protection of the innocent may require judgment under difficult circumstances.
Martial and Practical Skills
Candidates train extensively with the weapons, armor, horsemanship, fieldcraft, and defensive skills appropriate to Guardian service. They also learn the practical demands of escort, patrol, temple defense, travel, and service in unsettled or dangerous regions.
Spiritual Discipline
Prayer, contemplation, doctrine, restraint, and service form the other half of Guardian training. The Order expects its members to understand why they fight and to distinguish protection of the Faith from personal vengeance, ambition, or zealotry.
