Defenders of the Faithful
Guardians may protect temples, clergy, pilgrims, sacred sites, and vulnerable communities; escort travelers through dangerous territory; respond to threats associated with Shadow; or serve wherever their martial skills are required in defense of the Faithful.
Not an Inquisition
The Guardians are not intended to function as a roaming religious police force. Suspicion of magic or doctrinal disagreement alone does not grant a Guardian unlimited authority to punish, execute, or destroy.
Individual Guardians may be intolerant, zealous, corrupt, compassionate, pragmatic, or conflicted. Abuse of authority is possible precisely because Guardians are people, not because such abuse defines the Order.
Secular Authority
Guardian status does not automatically erase the authority of local rulers, laws, or noble Houses. Jurisdiction and cooperation may become complicated in times of crisis, leaving ample room for political and personal conflict in play.
